Dr. Abe Johnson, Jr., a devoted servant of God, distinguished theologian, and beloved family man, passed away peacefully at the age of 75. Born on March 25, 1951, in Apalachicola, Florida, Dr. Johnson was the son of the late Abe Johnson, Sr. and Azlea Johnson.
From an early age, he developed an unyielding passion for scripture, which eventually became the cornerstone of his life’s work. As a brilliant scholar, he was an avid lover of theological discussions and biblical research. His profound insights led him to author the foundational text, The Dialectical Method of Biblical Exegesis, and to establish the Smith Chapel Bible University, where his academic legacy will continue to shape future generations of faith leaders.
Dr. Johnson’s life was defined by his love for his family and his profound spiritual leadership. He shared a beautiful life and ministry with his beloved wife, Dr. Mittie Pollocks Johnson. Together, they built a family rooted in faith and purpose.
He is survived by his two children: Abe Johnson III (Trina) and Derek L. Johnson (Kenya). He was the proud grandfather to six wonderful grandchildren: Aedon, Amari, Addison, Kimora, Kamille, and Derek Johnson, Jr.
He leaves behind a loving family, including his siblings, Ann Bryan (Preston) and Van Johnson (Gail), as well as his sisters-in-law, Faye Johnson, Mattie P. Johnson, and Dr. Elmira P. Davis, and his brothers-in-law, T.C. Pollocks and Lonnie Pollocks.
Beyond his biological family, Dr. Johnson’s spiritual impact extended across the community. He leaves to cherish his memory his spiritual sons, Minister Ernest Johnson Jr., Pastor Dr. Andre’ Smith and Emmitt Rosier, and Lawrence Brown, Sr. and his spiritual daughters, Tiffany Henderson, Brenda Lawrence, Dr. Adrian Duncan, Bianca Deloach, Beverly Smith, and Sophia Houser, along with a host of colleagues, students, and friends whose lives were forever changed by his mentorship.
