Ana Maria Dominguez passed away April 8, 2021 at the age of 83. She is survived by her sister Iliana Dominguez Upchurch (Bill); sister-in-law Lynda Webb Dominguez; nephews and nieces Michael Dominguez (Ellie), David Dominguez (Kelly), Lisa Upchurch Adams (Jonathan), Julie Upchurch DeLorme (John), Emily Upchurch Robinson (Kris); and great-nieces and nephews Billy Dominguez (Brie), Troy Dominguez, Jenna Dominguez, Jordan Adams, Reagan Adams, Brynn Adams, Parker Robinson, Erin
Adams and Lauren Adams. She is preceded in death by her father José Gerardo Dominguez, Sr., mother Maria Regina Furnaguera Dominguez, brother José Gerardo Dominguez, Jr., and nephew José Richard
Dominguez.
Ana was born in Holguin, Cuba, on July 26, 1937. The second child of José “Cheo” and Maria “Cusa,” little sister Ana became a doting big sister at the age of eight when the family welcomed their third child, Iliana. Three months after her 12th birthday, on Oct 8, 1949, Ana, her mother, brother and sister arrived in the USA from Cuba to join their husband and father, who had come ahead of the family and established employment with the U.S. Sugar Corporation in Clewiston, Fla., where they would make their home.
Ana and family LOVED to celebrate their USA-arrival date every year by calling each other to say “Happy Coming-to-America Day!” They were always a do-things-together family, and on December 16, 1955, they all proudly became United States citizens.
After graduating from Clewiston High School in 1955, Ana joined the U.S. Sugar Corporation family, working as a secretary for the personnel department. In 1968, she moved to Miami, Fla., securing employment with Flagship/SunTrust Bank as a secretary in the commercial loans department. In 1993, in order to work closer to home and better care for her parents, she retired from the bank after 25 years of service and became church secretary for Southwest Community Church, where she was a member for 33 years.
Ana loved the Lord, loved to study His Word and was always involved in Bible study groups. She had a special place in her heart for missionaries, and through her work with the church as well as her own personal endeavors, was endlessly supporting those serving in mission fields both at home and abroad. Though retirement in 2007 took her to Holly Springs, N.C., to live near her brother and his family, Ana continued her service to the Lord as a volunteer with Trans World Radio in Cary. As life changes happen, 2019 brought Ana back to Florida, where she joined her sister and brother-in-law as new residents of Tallahassee.
Her life was a manifestation of God’s love, clearly evident in how she loved and served her family and others. Her heart’s desire was that her family would come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and she was always there to help in any way possible, especially as a Prayer Warrior. As a devoted daughter, she was compassionate and selfless in caring for her parents in their older years. As a loving sister, she was ever present in times of need. And as a doting aunt, she cared for her nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces like they were her very own. For her sisters’ children, who were blessed to have their “Tia” in nearly every childhood memory, from Christmas mornings and birthday celebrations to day trips to the beach and spontaneous afternoon craft sessions, she will always be remembered as a nurturing and affectionate caretaker, a beloved friend, teacher and playmate.
She loved music and gardening – her infinitely giving heart moved her to always be caring for someone or something. God used her to bless so many – family, friends, even people she would never meet – and out of her life grew a living garden of souls she loved and who loved her dearly.
