Annie Laurie McLendon Nunn, devoted wife, mother, homemaker, and retired employment counselor, went to be with the Lord on the evening of October 18, 2012.
Born March 28, 1918, in Bennettsville, South Carolina, she attended public schools where she excelled in her classes and women’s basketball. Following graduation, she attended Queens College in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she became a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and, thereafter, the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. In 1936 she met her future husband of 75 years, Reid A. Nunn, Jr. from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. They were wed on June 6, 1936, in her hometown of Bennettsville. After living in Miami, Tallahassee, Warner Robbins, Georgia, and Neptune Beach, Florida, she and her family returned to Tallahassee in 1954 where she set up homemaking and the raising of four children. At that time the family joined Trinity Methodist Church. In the late 1960’s, she worked with the Florida State University Registrar’s Office as an admissions counselor. She later worked with American Employment for some twenty years and later as an employment counselor with Prestige Personnel for a period of two years. She was involved with the women’s Church Circle at Trinity United Methodist Church for a number of years and would often be found reading her Bible at home and continuing to learn God’s word.
Annie Laurie had many interests including church, sports, gardening, travel, bridge, entertaining and cooking. She loved going to North and South Carolina on vacations to see friends and family, and also going to Panama City Beach with her husband and children. She especially enjoyed the trips to Alaska to see her daughter and to California to see her son and grandchildren. She loved fishing, especially in Alaska, where she caught her largest fish ever – a King Salmon - and she often caught more fish than the men of the family! She would not turn down watching a good game of football and basketball. Her passion for cooking was unmistakable and she loved preparing fine meals for her family or friends. No one could get enough of her Shrimp Orleans. Her lemon meringue pies were the best ever!!!
Preceding her to be with the Lord were her father, Millon Murray McLendon (who died before her birth); mother, Geneva McLendon McNair (James Lee McNair, stepfather) of Bennettsville, South Carolina; her husband, Reid A. Nunn, Jr. of Tallahassee; brothers, Millon Murray McLendon (Zilpha) of Lake City, South Carolina, Exum McLendon (New York City) and Thomas McLendon (Cottageville, SC); a sister, Mary Grace Farr (James) of Columbia, South Carolina; niece, Diane Farr Herty (Frank), of Columbia, South Carolina; nephew, Millon Murray McLendon, III; and niece, Connie McLendon Belk (Gene), both of Lake City, South Carolina.
Surviving family members include, daughters, Carol Nunn Midler (Don) of Tallahassee and Phyllis Nunn Larson (Paul) of Juneau, Alaska; sons, Reid A. Nunn III of Tallahassee and Lee McNair Nunn (Jeannie) of Tallahassee; nieces, Laurie Farr Moseley of Greenville, South Carolina and Mandy Farr Muth (Garold) of Bakersfield, California, along with 10 grandchildren, Dana Dahlen Tedders (Dylan), Paul Roman Larson, Jr. (Michelle), Brian David Dahlen, Alexandra Larson Razor, Ashley Nunn Taylor (Tyrone), Abram Nunn, Allison Nunn, Jennifer Evans, Ronda Evans Yawn (Jason), Anthony Evans; and nine great grandchildren, Erin Dahlen, Dalton Tedders, Deven Tedders, Raekwon Razor, Lincoln Razor, Candace Larson, Trent Yiesley, Jaxon Yawn, and Saxon Taylor.

Special thanks also go to the fine staff at Covenant Hospice for their love and support. We rejoice in knowing Annie Laurie is with her husband, her mother and father, brothers and sister, who are together rejoicing and singing praises to the Lord for his saving Grace.
