Bernard Walker was born on July 16, 1940, in Hammond, Louisiana. He was the son of the late Joe Walker, Sr and Martha Patterson Walker DeCosey. Bernard grew up in Thomasville, Georgia where he graduated from Douglass High School the class of 1959. Bernard would later receive his Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA in 1964.
He leaves behind his wife, Barbara Jean Walker and his daughter, Phyllis Nicole Walker. Bernard is also survived by his brother, Joe Walker, Jr. His sister, Maxine Marshall, preceded him in death. Bernard had several nephews: Daryl Walker, Billy Webb, Andre Blalock, Terry Blalock, Terrell Blalock, Chris Blalock, Reggie Blalock, Phil Hudson, Albert Lamar Hudson (deceased) Timmy Blalock (deceased) and Silas Reuben. He also had many nieces: Sonia Walker, Regina Williams, Cassandra Blalock, Wanda Blalock, Lynette Walker, Nichelle Blalock, and Shannon Blalock. Sister-in-laws included: Jeanette Walker, Sandra Kae Webb, Mildred Blalock, Loretha Blalock and Betty Floyd (deceased). Bernard's brother-in-laws: Samuel Blalock, Jr., William Webb, Larry Floyd, Amos Blalock (deceased) and Silas Marshall (deceased).
Bernard's mother and father-in-law, Sam and Flossie Blalock had preceded him in death. Bernard also had many cousins: Maude Moore Sinclair, Jerry Dean Anderson, Willie Patterson, Jr., Rev. Tom Walker (deceased), Estelle Walker (deceased), Tom Walker III, Xavier A. Walker, Jennifer Tucker, Kenneth L. Walker, Katrina Reynolds, Tacquitta Walker and Rosieland Walker, Charles Perry, Sr. (deceased), Horace Perry, Sr. (deceased), June Stephenson (deceased), Morrell Maurice Patterson (deceased), Joyce Patterson, Hermadean Thomas, Helen Perry (deceased), Maxine Legard, Janet Jackson, Harold Moore, Jr., Morris Moore, Marlene Hayes, Alicia Griffin, Ivory Dixon, Starlet Velvin, Loyce Thomas, Gregory Thomas, Chimecia Patterson, Maxine Legard, Terri Legard, Tammy Legard, Tara Legard, Bruce Stephenson and Connie Taylor, Bernard had numerous great nieces, great nephews and many generations of cousins. Bernard also leaves behind step brothers and sisters: Elizabeth DeCosey, Johnnie Bell Morton, Carrie Edmond, Linda Cox and Jimmy DeCosey.
Bernard will be remembered by special friends, Charlie Ward, Jean Monroe Pogue, Martha Shaw, Veronica McFarland, Gwen Walker, Kerita Walker, Dontae Walker, Queen Mack, Velva King, Zandria Acosta, Joe Cooper, Geraline Great, Charlotte Barbee, Tommy and Linda Barnes, Corrine Graham. Friends who passed before him: Sammy Graham (deceased), Joanne Graham (deceased), Eric Barbee (deceased).

May the prayers of your family and friends be with you and give you Comfort I can’t express how much Mr. Bernard will be missed by many including myself. I will miss our conversations and all of the life lessons learned by him. I know he’s gone from this earth to be with his Father to rest easy until we meet again.
