Beth Raynor

Beth was born to the late George and Alice Raye Owens in Aliceville, Alabama on July 13, 1949. Beth graduated as valedictorian of her high school class and earned a bachelor's degree in English from the Mississippi State College for Women. She married Robert Raynor in 1971, and they celebrated 53 years of marriage before his death in 2024.

Beth is survived by her two children, Laura Miller (James) and Alan Raynor (Wendy), her sister, Peggy Wines (Andrew), and her granddaughter, Lucy.

Beth used her love of words and language to become a research assistant in the Oceanography Dept. at Florida State University. She was a talented sewer, often making quilts and blankets for charities and sewing costumes for church and school productions. Her creative talent included music as well, as she was a gifted pianist and singer, and you could find her singing with her church choir on Sunday mornings.

A memorial service will take place on Monday, September 15 at 1:00 p.m. at Saint Paul's United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Big Bend Hospice.
