ELIZABETH HOLLINGSWORTH ANDERSON FARKAS, 92, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2013. Betty was born November 7, 1920 in Thomasville, Georgia to Elizabeth Hollingsworth Anderson and William S. Anderson.
After graduating from Wesleyan College, Betty went to New York City and became a high fashion model, appearing on over fifty magazine covers, including Vogue and Redbook. During her time in the city, she met the prominent fashion photographer, Zoltan S. Farkas. They married in Havana, Cuba on New Year’s Eve 1949 and continued to reside in New York City for many years. After a successful career in fashion photography, Zoltan became a highly sought after financier all throughout the United States. During this time, he and Betty lived in Los Angeles in the renowned Sunset Tower.
In 1984, to be near their only granddaughter, Worth, Betty and Zoli retired to Tallahassee. Not far from her hometown of Thomasville, Betty held onto her southern roots through her involvement with the Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames and the Altar Guild at Trinity United Methodist Church. Betty and Zoli were founding members of LeMoyne where she continued to immerse herself and joyfully volunteered for many years.
Betty was passionate and instrumental with her daughter, Tina, in the creation, building and development of Young Actors Theatre. As a cornerstone for the nationally recognized youth theatre, for over thirty years Betty greeted thousands of patrons with “Hello, Darling” as they entered the theatre on Glenview Drive.
The family would like to thank her devoted caregivers: Val, Freda, Raven, Candance and Jonathan for their love and wonderful assistance.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her only brother.
Left to cherish her memory are her only daughter, Cristina Farkas Williams; her son-in-law, John D. Williams; her granddaughter, Elizabeth Hollingsworth (Worth) Williams Hages; Worth’s husband, Michael Hages and her great-granddaughter Colette Hollingsworth Hages, who fondly referred to her great grandmother as Bet Bet.
Family and friends are invited to a reception hosted at Young Actors Theatre on Saturday, October 19th between 5pm and 7pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Betty at Young Actors Theatre; 609 Glenview Drive; Tallahassee, Florida 32303.
