She was born in Warren, PA on November 11, 1938.
In High School, Beverly was the head majorette in the band. This led to mentoring and teaching a twirling corps. She received her Master’s degree from Temple and a PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1977, she joined the staff at Florida State as a Professor, Department Head (Education) and Academic Coordinator of Athletics. She had numerous Doctorial students from all over the world including Taiwan, Jordan, Africa, etc.
She always said that she had many sons and daughters. She liked to also say Bobby Bowden came to FSU in 1976 and she came in 1977.
Beverly and family were members of Christ Presbyterian Church. She was active in the running of the church, the FSU Presbyterian University Center and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She and her husband loved to travel all over the world including Africa, London, Scotland and Ireland. Beverly was also a very avid sports fan especially if they were her students. Watching the NFL draft was very important for many years.
Surviving relatives include her childhood sweetheart and husband of almost 60 years, Robert Yerg; one son, David Yerg and wife Cayla; brother, Paul Johnson and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
