Brian was born on December 24, 1957, to Nancy and Ellis Rue in Colorado Springs, Colorado. As he was growing up, the family moved to Bloomington and Speedway Indiana before settling in Dunedin Florida, with Brian picking up lifelong interests along the way: from Colorado, a passion for the Denver Broncos, from Bloomington a passion for history gleaned from his grandparents, and from Speedway a life-long fascination with fast cars and racing. While growing up in Florida, Brian’s fascination turned to the rocket launches at the Kennedy Space Center, occasionally skipping school to drive over to see Space Shuttle launches. He attended Florida State University, graduating first in 1981 with a degree in Finance and later returning for a second degree in Accounting before certifying as a CPA.
Brian married Linda Wilson in 1988. They moved to Tallahassee shortly thereafter for Brian to take a job with FSU and to start their family with the birth of their son Brandon. Brian proudly worked for FSU for the rest of his life, finishing as an Associate Director Information Security and Privacy. Away from his job, Brian threw himself into his numerous hobbies. He loved taking his family to the Disney theme parks. His interest in racing shifted from the Indy 500 to the Daytona 500, and he relished times with friends at the track. While visiting England in 2014 he would talk to the cabbies about the Chelsea Football Team with the depth of knowledge of a life-long Londoner. His love for animals was deep, attested by the many dogs that were central to his family’s life. His real passion was for the NASA space program. His many trips to the Cape were like pilgrimages. While in his hospital bed, just before his passing he poured over every detail of the recent Space X launch and revealed a hope to be able to retire to a home overlooking the Indian River where he could watch the launches from his backyard.
Brian’s passing was preceded by the deaths of his parents, Nancy and Ellis Rue, along with his beloved wife, Linda. He is survived by his son, Brandon Rue and the families of his sister, Melissa Rue Fontaine and his brother, Anthony Rue.
