Carl (Coppel) Rubin was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1929 to Bennie and Frieda Rubin during the Great Depression. Times were tough and they worked hard. Carl attended the Grover Cleveland elementary school and Lane Tech High School. After that, a young skinny Carl joined the Army and was stationed in Korea. He endured some of the coldest most brutal winters, even by Chicago standards. He survived and was honorably discharged in 1952. Upon his return to Chicago, Carl met the love of his life Marilyn (Mirke) Karp. They were married in 1953 and spent the next 62 years together, raising a family, traveling, helping others, and working hard. They had three sons, Barry (Belen), Lawrence (Lisa), and Scott along with six grandchildren, Benjamin, Raquel, Samuel, Adam, Jessie, and Ayla. He dearly loved his family and was very proud of his heritage, and background. He retired from Southern Valve and Fitting (his plumbing import and distribution business) and moved to Tallahassee in 1998. Carl was an avid reader, history buff, and traveled the world with his bride and their many friends. He was an active member at Temple Israel and their Yiddish Club. Carl was always insightful and had a unique perspective on life. His wit, humor, and ever present schtick and narushkyute will be sorely missed by all of the people he touched throughout his lifetime.
A Graveside service will be held 1pm Thursday, June 25 at Culley’s MeadowWood Memorial Park, 700 Timberlane Road Tallahassee, with a reception to follow in the Culley’s Life Celebration Event Center.
