Laban Carlton “Carlton” Chappell, Jr. of Tallahassee, Florida passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022 in the loving company of his wife, children, and grandchildren. Carlton was born on July 29, 1940 to the late Laban Carlton Chappell and Mary Chrystine Carter Chappell in Washington, D.C. In 1962, Carlton married Ginger Hager, and together they had three children and enjoyed 60 wonderful years of marriage.
Carlton graduated from Citrus High School, Inverness, Florida, in 1958 and attended The University of Florida where he received a Bachelor of Science in Forestry. He was a Certified Wildlife Biologist and for over thirty years he served the State of Florida culminating his career as the Assistant Bureau Chief for the Division of Wildlife for the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission. After retirement, Carlton also captained a charter fishing service, Gulf Coast Charters, for about twenty years.
Carlton was an avid fisherman and hunter. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends while fishing his secret fishing holes.
Carlton is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Chappell. Left to mourn and cherish Carlton’s memory is his wife, Ginger Chappell; his children, Cathy Dierking (Tom), Scott Chappell, and Janet Shipman (Martin); his grandchildren, Christopher Procaccini, Rachel Bowen (Jake), Logan Chappell (Abbye), Jessicah Singer (Jordan), Martin Shipman, Jr, Grace Shipman, and Carter Shipman; his great grandchildren, Adeline Singer and Camryn Chappell; and his siblings, Brad Chappell (Vim), and Joy Wilson.

A celebration of Carlton’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee, FL 32308.
