Carole was a devoted Christian woman whose life reflected a quiet strength, deep compassion, and unwavering faith. She was a beloved member of The Family of God Methodist Church in Palmetto, Florida, and was formerly a faithful member of North Scipio United Methodist Church in Harlan, Indiana.
Born on May 2, 1935, to Floyd and Loretta (Dirig) Potts, Carole was raised with a love for family, nature, and the simple joys of life. Some of her fondest childhood memories included playing in the farm creek with her best friends, eating vegetables fresh from the garden, and roller skating at Bell’s Rink in New Haven. These early joys instilled in her a lifelong appreciation for God’s creation and the blessings of everyday moments.
As a young woman, Carole worked at Howard Johnson’s Restaurant, where she met the love of her life, Roland Dorsey. At the age of 17, she married Roland, beginning a beautiful journey of love and devotion that lasted for 60 wonderful years. Together they raised three children and created a home filled with laughter, faith, and unconditional love. Some of her greatest joys were found in motherhood and in being a devoted wife to a good and loving husband.
Carole loved square dancing, spending time with friends, and creating handmade crafts. Her giving spirit shone brightly during her years working with Cameron Hospital Home Health Hospice in Angola, where she cared tenderly for the elderly and hospice patients in their homes. She approached this work as a sacred calling and offered comfort to many during their final days.
Following the passing of her husband, Carole was blessed with the companionship of James Fawcett, with whom she shared eight cherished years. James preceded her in death, but the love and joy they shared brought comfort and light to her later years.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Loretta; her siblings Janice Frankart, Rolland Potts, Floyd Potts Jr., Eileen Straub, and Sharon Thimlar; and her grandson, Mitchell Jenks.
Carole’s legacy lives on in the hearts of her children: Rolana (Les) Brown, Robert (Andre) Dorsey, and Sanee Lombardi; her grandchildren: Nicholas (Bobbi) Jenks, Michael Lombardi, Nicholas Lombardi, and Madelyn Lombardi; and her great-grandchildren: Asher Jenks and Elliott Jenks.
A graveside service to celebrate Carole’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. (Eastern Time) on Saturday, July 12, at North Scipio Christian Church, 23630 IN-37, Harlan, Indiana 46743.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to North Scipio Christian Church in honor of Carole’s enduring faith and her lifelong commitment to serving others.
“Her children arise and call her blessed… a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
