Carolyn Embry went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 11, 2025. She was predeceased by her husband Edward “Ed” Embry, parents Paul and Laura Alice Henson, sister Paula Henson Rain, and brother Terry Henson (Anita). She is survived by daughters Teresa, Karen, and Amy Embry, sister Nancy Martin (Tony), and brother Robert Henson (Rae Ann).
Carolyn was raised in Little Rock, Arkansas. On August 25, 1960, she married Ed Embry and moved to Panama City, Florida, where he was stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base. In 1964 they moved to Tallahassee where Ed was an Air Traffic Controller at the Tallahassee Airport and raised their three daughters. Carolyn enjoyed being a homemaker performing her favorite hobbies of cooking, sewing, and Bible study. She was known for her cornbread dressing and assistance with church suppers, her talent of making an outfit in one day, and teaching Sunday School and co-coordinating seasonal church programs. While she served as a Girl Scout Leader and a Mother Advisor of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls when their children were younger, she and Ed spent their pre-retirement years operating their hobby shop, the Tandy Leathercraft Store, at the Northwood Mall. After Ed passed away from cancer in 1996, Carolyn worked with Artistic Flowers during the holidays and with the Florida Senate as a proofreader. Regional coach trips and several overseas travels to Great Britain, Ireland, and Scandinavia were cherished. She then became a two-time cancer survivor and spent her retirement years in Havana with dear friends and loved ones. Her 60-year dedication to East Hill Baptist Church Friendship Class, Tallahassee, and her 40-year friendship with Riverside Baptist Church Woman’s Missionary Union and Ladies Weekly Breakfast, Havana, were her guiding lights.
The family wishes to acknowledge all of our friends and caregivers who provided their prayers and support during her lengthy illnesses. East Hill Baptist Church, Riverside Baptist Church, Westminster Oaks Bertrand Health Center, and TMH Physician Partners, Southern Medical Group. Contributions can be made to these organizations or a favored charity.
