

Charles C. Rehwinkel, 90, passed away peacefully at home in Tallahassee, September 19. 2016 surrounded by his family. Born July 14, 1926 in Crawfordville, Florida, he graduated from Wakulla High School as valedictorian after which he earned an accounting degree from the University of Florida at the age of 20. Soon after, he began a long career with the Auditor General's Office, travelling statewide. While on assignment in the Everglades, he observed an attractive young teacher debating the accuracy of her paycheck at the school board office he was auditing. After repeated declines for a date, Mary Hannon agreed to a date and a romance ensued, resulting in a marriage lasting nearly 60 years. Charles, referred to by friends as "Ray" was a lifelong Methodist and member of the First United Methodist Church in Crawfordville and Pensacola. His hobbies included reading, following his beloved Florida Gators, and spending time with his wife and family. He never missed an opportunity to attend any music recital, school or sporting event in which children or grandchildren participated, as long as he could spend time with his family. His love for the University of Florida continued after graduation as he was a lifetime member of the Alumni Association and a brother of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary H. Rehwinkel and his four children, Julia Marie Rehwinkel, Charles J. Rehwinkel, James Rehwinkel (Susan), and Brian Rehwinkel. He also had three grandchildren, Catherine Rehwinkel, Anna Laura Rehwinkel, and Olivia Rehwinkel. Two nephews, Mark Hudson (Cindy), Robert Stone (Joyce); and one niece, Donna Kay Morton (Richard), and was predeceased by another nephew, Michael Hudson. He is also predeceased by his parents Charles L. and Florence Rehwinkel and sister Miriam Hudson. He is survived by his sister, Carolyn Stone of Lawerencville, Georgia.
The family will receive friends at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road, on September 22 from 6pm to 7pm. A funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Crawfordville, 176 Ochlocknee Street, on September 29 at 3:00pm.
