Christy Ann Riffle-Liles, 63 of Tallahassee, died July 2, 2014 at Big Bend Hospice House after waging a courageous battle with cancer over the past seven years. Christy was born May 12, 1951 in Ann Arbor, MI to Lester James and Doretha (Hand) Riffle and moved to Tallahassee in 1998 from Lexington, KY. Christy graduated from the University of Kentucky where she received her Masters Degree in Education and earned her PhD in Special Education. Christy began her career in education having taught in Colombia, South America and later with the Head Start program in Durango, CO. She continued her career serving as Assistant Director with the Mid-South Regional Resource Center in Lexington. Upon moving to Florida she served as a consultant to the Florida Department of Education and the Department of Health. She retired in 2010 as a Legislative Assistant to Michelle Rehwinkle-Vasilinda in Tallahassee. Christy was united in marriage on October 24, 1997 to her husband, Jay who resides in Tallahassee. She is also survived by her sister, Stephanie (William Tolliver) Riffle of Lexington, KY; her brothers, Michael (Janet) Riffle of Lexington, Greg (Tracy) Riffle of Savage, MN and David (Caroline) Riffle of Baton Rouge. She is also survived by her beloved cat, Bean. Friends will be received Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at the Culley’s Meadowwood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel where a Celebration of Christy’s Life will take place from 5:30pm-7:00 pm. Casual attire is requested. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Christy’s honor to, the Leon County Humane Society, the American Cancer Society or to Big Bend Hospice of Tallahassee.
