Cynthia Rucker Jones passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025. She is survived by her two sons, Nathan Thomas Jones and Christopher Dowell Jones; her daughter-in-law, Lauren Wilson Jones; her longtime friend and former spouse, Thomas Jones; her nephew, Luke Norton; her niece, Abby Ragan; and her nephew and niece, Justin Novak and Kristine Nofer, as well as Debbie and Justin “Skip” Novak.
Cynthia, more often known as Cindy, was born on November 5, 1954, in Macon, Georgia, and grew up in Atlanta. She was the daughter of Wesley Harris Rucker and Carolyn Tyson Rucker, and the younger sister of Connie Norton. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister.
Cindy graduated from Valdosta State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1974. She went on to have a remarkable career at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, where she worked from 1975 until her retirement in 2023. Over her 44 years of service, she held many roles—including in the ICU, Labor & Delivery, Cardiac Cath Lab, and Infection Prevention. Cindy was a well-known and beloved presence throughout the hospital, with friendships spanning every department.
Cindy deeply loved her family—especially her two sons—and was known for her warmth, sense of humor, and unmistakable laugh. She lit up every room she entered and brought joy to those around her. She loved the beach, going on trips with family, dancing, and spending time with her many friends and loved ones. To know her was to love her—and if you ever had the privilege to meet her, she probably told you she loved you. Cindy always wore a warm smile for everyone, even during her most difficult health battles, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of Cindy’s life will be held in the near future. Details will be shared by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Cindy would be honored for you to make a donation to the American Cancer Society.
