Just putting a message out into the ether to recognize that you left us 5 years ago … and yet, in so many ways, you are still with us. Thank you for all you did for us, and continue to do.

Four years ago today! Dan - I miss our regular phone calls but I still hear your voice in my head, feel your advice guiding me, and I occasionally listen to old voicemails you left for me. Love you. Darren

I thought of Dan today and looked up this obituary. I didn't leave a message when I first learned that Dan had passed away -- I was so shocked. But today I'm remembering all of the insight and help that he shared with me as my therapist when I was in my communication doctoral program at FSU in the early 1980s, and later by phone when I got my first academic job in California. If it weren't for the "connection" to Dan at that time, I don't know how I would have survived two tramatic experiences in my life. He helped me through a difficult transition and I am eternally grateful. By the way, I called him Dan to his face, and Boroto when I referred to him with others:)

I was fortunate enough to be a student of his in the Psychology of Change and Adjustment class in ‘90. Dr. Boroto’s course changed my life In countless amazing ways. I am the person I am today and I credit Dr. Boroto for making me more compassionate, more mindful, more joyful, and more aware.  Over the past 30 years I have quietly thanked him across the miles for guiding me so well. I can still recall the 5 agreements (his students will know what I mean). No teacher has ever had such a profound impact on my life as Dan Boroto. I unfortunately found this obituary when I was looking to contact him just to thank him for all the wisdom. With a sad heart, I was never able to share my gratitude with him for such an amazing course.

The best professor I ever had. My daughters are now at FSU so I looked up Dr. Boroto for them to see if he was still teaching there. I am saddened to see he passed. I still have my notes from his An Introduction To The Psychology Of Adjustment (Fall 1992) and have used some of what I learned ever sense.

I just found out yesterday that Dr. Boroto died October 2020. I'm still sitting with the news. Remembering that last coffee we never set a date to go have. 

My favorite thing about him was he never pretended to have it all together. Actually quite embraced the complexity of living and imperfection. Of being present with it all. Pain, discomfort, joy, and pleasure. I think it's what made him more than just a professor to me. Beyond the type of healer I wanted to be, he taught me about the type of human I want to be.

Dr. Dan had an indelible impact on my life. His wisdom and compassion continue to inspire me.

To the honored survivors of Doctor Daniel Boroto-

I am at a loss to fully express the mourning due to such a laudable paragon as "Doctor Boroto" was to me. 

Before graduating as a psychology major at FSU, "Dan," as he later invited me to call him asserted himself as a role model I've long sought to emulate. 

Following graduation, the privilege of continuing our dialogues was one I held dearer, more consistent & sincere than many others. 

While traveling with a friend who had also taken a class of his on my encouragement, he hosted us for dinner & a night's rest. 

His sophisticated culinary acumen was no less impressive than his deep oceans of wisdom. Bathing in both continues to inspire & humble me. 

His pearls of wisdom, often referred to as "Borotocisms" by students fortune enough to attend to his lessons, will continue to be shared through the rest of my days. 

It is with sincere sense of personal loss of this mentor, model, and friend, that I imagine the grief of those who held him dear. Family, friends, the world at large have all lost an angel most high with his death. 

Honored to have known him, I shall continue to try and be much like him. 

May all chilled by his absence of his shadow appreciate the light of having known him.

Dan was a friend who cherished his relations, and a person of honor, decency and remarkable discipline. I’ll   miss knowing he was with us. 

Dan was a colleague, mentor, and friend. I grew personally and as a clinical supervisor because of him. As others have commented, he was a warm and generous man, always willing to share his time (as well as jokes, some better than others!). I send my deepest condolences to the Boroto family. 

Dr. Boroto taught me to live a life of intention. And, that every action had consequences. I called him Dr. Boroto, and he called me Margaret for 20 life-changing years. Rest In Peace dear counselor.

I am grateful to Dan for accepting me to the FSU Clinical Psychology Doctoral program in 1999. I appreciated his wisdom, creativity, humor, and encouragement. I would not be where I am today without his influence. I appreciated especially his guidance on psychotherapy, raising children, and gourmet cooking! I express condolences to his family and others who knew him and celebrate his life. 

Dan was the closest Profesor relationship I ever had. I knew about him before I started FSU and made sure that he was my clinical supervisor1st year. My sweetest memory is of his generosity. I got an article published and put his name as 2nd author. Your major Prof. usually requires the student to do that. He was not involved in my research nor was it any topic he was researching. He told me to go ahead as the sole author. That generosity was my first memory of learning he died. It was accompanied by some tears 

Dan was my friend, colleague, and co-author.  He shared a lot of wisdom on everything from velvet gloves to empathy and compassion.  His crazy sense of humor provided many belly laughs.  His kindness was legendary.  The world is lesser for his absence.  We miss you, Dan.

I was also a member of that 1957 Class that started at the Joss.  I was in the second of three sections.  Dan was in the first (alphabetical may not be original, but efficient).  As a result he was always ahead of me in line.  He stayed there his whole life being a great example of what we were training to be - exemplary teachers and outstanding men of character.  My condolences and prayers are with you, the family and I share the sorrow of your loss.  But know that his legacy will live on in the many lives that he touched.

So hard to hear when someone we have known passes on to pure happiness, love and grace. I remember Dan so well from the Joss when we were sextaners in 1957. We were in different sections (there were 3) and had different class times. But I can remember Dan's smile, humor and outgoing personality. I remember to this day our daily schedule from the bell at 6 am to lights out at 10 pm. We all moved ahead in life since then. My thoughts and prayers to Dan' s family, friends, students and all who he touched. Love to all.

Dan and I were two of the 97 high-school freshmen arriving at the Josephinum seminary in September 1957. I was one of several kids from Texas; Dan was one of many PA kids, and many other states were represented in that class. To one another, we were all weird, speaking in different tongues. But the bonds we formed in that mini-melting-pot were such that -- though many years, many miles, many relationships, and many careers have intervened -- learning that one of us has passed truly feels like "the Force" has shifted. I know without a hint of doubt that Dan was a wonderful guy, led an exemplary life, and is terribly missed by you, his family and immediate friends.  Please accept my condolences and best wishes for your return to peace and joy.

I got to know Boroto ( we referred to our beloved classmates by their family names) during my 2 years at the Josephinum, 1957 to 1959.  I offer my condolences to the entire Boroto family.  May he rest in peace.

Dan came into my life in the late 70's.  I recall being fascinated by our 1st phone call - he was so perceptive.   Many of the changes in my life come directly from what he offered.  His respect and sensitivity for others was always foremost 

Over the decades we added many roles to what we shared - and as we grew older I was grateful to be able to contribute to him as he did me.  

Dan was my friend and mentor for the last 25 years of his life. He was one of life's true teachers. In my experience, anyone who interacted with Dan came away the better for it, and benefited from the lessons that Dan shared. A day never goes by without me doing something different as a result of knowing Dan. If you multiple that by all of the people he impacted, that makes for an amazing legacy. This world contains very few Dan Borotos, and it's heartbreaking that we now have one fewer. Fortunately, his lessons live on.

To the BOROTO family(this may have been sent earlier; one never is certain of anything with rural broadband). Danny, as he was known then, and I were classmates at the “Josh” beginning in the fall of 1957. That fall, the high school put on a talent show one rather chilly November Saturday evening. A farm wagon parked in a cornfield near the pond was the stage. Danny played “Sugar Blues” on his muted trumpet, and I was impressed. Danny was also the quarterback of our black-jerseyed senior football team that took it on the chin by the Joe Mamola-led college team. Many fond memories of being on sports teams with Danny.
