Born in Tallahassee on December 20, 1950 to Franklin Lamar Andrews and Ruby Louise Moon-Andrews, David was the youngest of 6 children. After graduating from Leon High school, David started taking classes at TCC. It was here that he noticed the girl in hot pants one day from across campus and he and Kay Hoover started dating soon after. They were wed on June 15, 1974. Soon after, they started Suncoast Lawn and Landscaping. With Kay running the business side and David handling the hard work, the business would grow to include multiple crews servicing some of Tallahassee’s most important landmarks such as the Governor's Mansion and the Civic Center.
Despite the long hours and hard work, David never neglected spending time with Kay and their 3 children. Son David Bryan was born May 20, 1976. Followed by Laurie Kathryn on September 6, 1979. And finally, Kristin Elizabeth on January 22, 1983. During their younger years, David was a strong supporter and volunteer with their activities. Saturday’s spent on the football field, pulling a trailer of crew boats to far out of town races, videotaping gymnastics meets, piano recitals and attending numerous dance recitals, David was always there.
His 31 years of marriage to Kay was filled with a love of spending time together and with their large families. After numerous battles with cancer, Kay passed away on February 25, 2005. David would re-marry Susan Hartsfield (4/12/52 - 12/3/22) and relocated to several acres in Quincy, FL. He and Susan enjoyed gardening, spending time on their porch, and the numerous visits from their grandchildren.
He is survived by his brother, Fred Andrews (Bonnie), and his sister, Joan Consalvi; his children, Bryan Andrews (Amberly), Laurie Malling (Scott), and Kristin Strauss (Erick); grandchildren, Robert and Nicholas Strauss; Kai and Riley Malling, Kellan Andrews, Raelynn and Knox.
A Celebration of Life will be had at Bradley’s Pond, Thursday August, 29th at 12:00pm.
