
David (Dave) Andrew Barrett, age 77, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on May 12, 2026. He was born to Sydney and Eva Marie Buhr Barrett in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is survived by his best friend and Wife, Elizabeth (Liz) Barrett; step-daughter, Margaret (Megan) Aileen Swain; brother and sister, James Ernest Barrett (Patti); brother, John Sidney Barrett (Cindy McPhee); sister-in-law, Dorris Tirado; niece, Eva Isabel Tirado-Barrett; niece, Sarah Corrin Barrett; niece, Sidney Alexis Barrett Parker (Jeremy); niece, Mahria Kelly Barrett. Dave was preceded in death by his sister, Marna Sue Eva Barrett, and Anna Rica Altobellis (Ex-Wife).
Dave proudly served with the U.S. Army and Florida National Guard from 1970-1976. He graduated from the University of South Florida with a bachelor’s degree and FSU College of Law, Juris Doctorate in 1973. One of his proudest achievements was being the Capital Tiger Bay Club Vice President from 1974-1976 and President from 1976-1978. Dave was General Counsel, Florida House of Representatives, Tallahassee, from 1974-197 and held various other positions within Florida government. Continuing his positions involving law, Dave also partnered in the law firm, Barrett and Bajoczky, Tallahassee, Florida and with a number of other law firms throughout the years. He was on the Board of Directors of Downtown Improvement Authority in 1993 and was the Chairman in 1996.
Breeding horses (with one of his favorite horses being T.G.) was one of the main things that brought him the most joy in life. Along with his love for horses, he also had a favorite donkey, Truman. Dave’s most treasured hobby of all was being an avid motorcycle rider with his favorite routes being Chief Joseph Highway, Beartooth Pass, and Highway to the Sun.
David took great pleasure as a successful business and real estate investor through the years. His ability to mix business with his philanthropic passion made him proud. Countless individuals and businesses thank David for his mentorship and generous soul.
His memorial service will be held at Culley’s 700 Timberlane Rd, Tallahassee, FL 32312 on May 31, 2026 from 11 AM until 2 PM.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
