OBITUARY

Dawn D Tatum

November 27, 1954November 4, 2019

Dawn Marie Dyer Tatum, 64, returned to her heavenly home on November 4, 2019 after a lengthy illness. Dawn was born to the late William and Lovie “Polly” Dyer in Atlanta, GA on November 27, 1954. She moved to Tallahassee, FL in 1960.

Dawn was blessed with a devoted and loving husband of 44 years, Thomas Tatum. Dawn’s greatest joy in life was her entire, extended, family. Dawn loved her family with a ferocity and depth that only a mother could. Dawn did not simply love her family and friends; she took their joys, fears, pains and anguishes as her own. The kindness, understanding, acceptance, support and positivity that Dawn bestowed upon her children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews, cousins, as well as friends had a way of touching someone’s life in a way that left a lasting, indelible mark. Once you knew her, you could never forget her.

While Dawn was an accomplished and respected HR professional by trade, her true passions in her free time were crafts, collecting and cooking for people. Dawn enjoyed cross-stitching, making flower arrangements, making home-made decorations, collecting Boyd Bears, antiques and generally any southern knick-knack that her eyes saw. One of her favorite things to do was to cook for church events, including Tri-State Christian Camp, Men’s Prayer Breakfasts, and Wednesday evening meals. Dawn is survived by her husband Tommy; her daughter Brandi Babb (married to CJ); her son Brinson Tatum (married to Elizabeth); Six grandchildren: (Brandi) Cameron, Caleb, and Caelan; (Brinson) Samantha, Brinson Jr., and Cooper.

In addition, Dawn is survived by siblings Jane Goodson (married to Johnny), Thomas Dyer, Joy Boggess (married to Roger), and Jody Dyer (married to Lila). Dawn was preceded in death by her brother David Dyer.

Furthermore, Dawn is survived by her nieces and nephews and their children whom she loved as her own kids. Belinda (Jonni and Little Johnny, Shane), Debbie (Alex and Thomas), Dwain (Brooks, Bailey, Peyton, Jessica, and Davis), Kevin (Hudson), Wes, Elizabeth (Austin and Andrew), Katherine, Michael, Anthony (Jordan and Damien), Allison, Joshua, Justin, Hudson, Reanna, and Meaghan (James and Dean).

Tommy, Brandi, Brinson and family:
I have such wonderful memories of times spent at so many church functions with all of you and Dawn. What a wonderful Christian woman she was and I simply can’t imagine the loss you must all be feeling. My prayer is that God gives you the peace and understanding that only he can provide and that your wonderful memories of family times together will always remain dear. Although I don’t get to see you as often as we used to, please know all of the Bono Family sends their love and support.

Dawn was a wonderful friend. I am so sad to hear of her passing and cannot even imagine the void she has left in her family. She truly did love her family and friends with that ferocity that was mentioned. I knew without a doubt she was someone I could turn to at anytime for a kind word or a sympathetic ear. She cared about everyone she knew and we all loved her in return. You will be missed Dawn. My prayers are with your family as they learn how to live without you here.

Dawn, you have been my friend since I first walked into your office April 1988 for a job interview! I ask you then if you were a Dyer and I don’t remember even being ask about my job skills, we talked about going to school together in the 60s. By the time I got back to my job from the interview you had called to offer me a job and from that day forward we were friends that always had each other’s back! I love you and will miss you my friend!
