Uncle LaVelle was always kind and complementary to
me. He always told me I was pretty and sweet. As a fat kid and heavyset teenager, that was important. When my family sang, he also complimented our music. I knew he loved and respected his sister, my Mama. He was a good man. I remember when He started dating Mary. I was glad! Then I remember sweet little Marya. What a doll she was! It was fun to see Uncle LaVelle so happy. Yes, he was a good man.

I didn’t have the pleasure of knowing you, but Marya spoke of her love for you often. May you forever rest in sweet paradise.

My memory of Lavelle, my brother, is when he would come home when he was a teen after curfew, We would already be in bed, but he would go get a warm, wet washcloth and slip into our parents room where he would wash our Dad’s feet. Dad loved to have his feet washed and would never mention about the fact that Lavelle had stayed out too late. There were 5 of us 7 kids left at home and we would call our brother, Lavelle, Dad’s pet.
I was never allowed to go to a ball game until Lavelle became a football star in High School. I was so proud of him and a couple of my girl friends had a crush on him. I would brag that he was my brother.
I know that I will see him again. Until then, I will remember Lavelle with love knowing that he is safe in the arms of Jesus.
