“Pooh Bear” | A Soul Too Beautiful for This World
It is with immeasurable heartbreak and a grief too deep for words that we announce the tragic and untimely passing of Devin Graves, affectionately known as Pooh Bear, who departed this life at the age of 26. Though his time on this earth was far too brief, the love he gave, the lives he touched, and the memories he created will forever remain woven into the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Some souls seem to carry a little more light than this world knows what to do with. Devin was one of those souls. He possessed a rare and beautiful spirit—creative, free-thinking, charismatic, and blessed with a soulful intellect that made him uniquely himself. He had a way of making an impression that stayed with you long after he left the room. To know Devin was to love him, and to love him was to understand that there was something truly special about the young man he was.
Devin was funny, thoughtful, generous to a fault, and full of a love that extended far beyond words. He had a heart that simply could not turn away from someone in need. Helping others was more than something he did; it was a calling that lived within him. If Devin encountered someone who was struggling, his heart would not rest until he had tried to help. He gave of himself freely, often putting the needs of others before his own, because that was the kind of person he was. His compassion was genuine, his generosity was instinctive, and his love was given without measure.
Above all, Devin loved his family beyond measure. His family was a part of his very soul, and the bond he shared with them was one of the greatest reflections of the love he carried within him. He had a special way of letting that love be known, sometimes through laughter, sometimes through thoughtful gestures, and sometimes through words that arrived just when they were needed most.
One of the precious memories his mother will forever hold close is Devin’s habit of leaving her inspirational quotes. Those words, shared in his own thoughtful way, were little reminders of the beautiful connection they shared. What may once have seemed like a simple message will now be treasured as something priceless—a piece of her son that she can return to whenever she needs to feel close to him. Long after the world grows quiet, his words will remain, carrying the warmth of his heart and the unmistakable presence of her beloved son.
Devin leaves behind his devoted mother, Brisa Hernandez, and his father, Gary and Jacquelyn Graves. He also leaves behind his beloved son, Noah Graves, who will forever be a precious part of his legacy. Though Devin’s life was cut tragically short, the love he leaves behind will continue through his son and through every heart forever changed by having known him.
He will be deeply missed by his cherished siblings, Danesha, Jayden, Benjamin, Jaylin, Emiliano, and Luis, as well as an enormous circle of family members and loved ones whose lives were made brighter by his presence. In a family so full of love, Devin held a place that can never be filled by another. His absence will be felt in family gatherings, in shared laughter, in familiar traditions, in quiet moments, and in the countless occasions when someone instinctively reaches for the person who should still be there.
There is a particular kind of heartbreak in losing someone so young—a young man with so much life left to live, so much love left to give, and so many possibilities still ahead of him. There are dreams that will never have the chance to unfold, conversations that will never take place, and memories that his family should have had the opportunity to make with him for many more years. His passing has left a wound that words cannot heal and questions that may never find answers. The pain of his absence is profound because the love for him is just as profound.
Devin was preceded in death by his beloved granny, Florine Graves, and his beautiful aunt, Carolyn, whom he held dear. While those who remain must navigate the unimaginable pain of his absence, his family may find comfort in remembering the special bonds that connect generations and in the love that continues to unite them, even through the deepest sorrow.
Yet Devin’s story must never be defined solely by the tragedy of his passing. He was so much more than the way his life ended. He was the young man with the creative mind, the soulful heart, the infectious humor, the thoughtful spirit, and the extraordinary willingness to help others. He was Pooh Bear—the beloved son, the loving father, the cherished brother, and the family member whose presence meant more than he could ever have fully known.
The world may have lost a young man at just 26, but those who loved Devin know that the measure of a life is not simply the number of years lived. It is the love given, the kindness extended, the hearts touched
