Dixie Alane Wormuth, 77, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, in her hometown of Tallahassee, Florida. Born on August 2, 1948, to Francis Collins, Dixie was raised in a warm, bustling home by Annie Bell and R.E. Collins, surrounded by a large, loving family of many aunts and uncles.
Dixie was the cherished wife of Paul "Big Bear" Wormuth. Together, they shared a beautiful marriage of 39 years, 7 months, and 17 days. For the final 15 years of her life, Paul served as her devoted, unwavering caretaker—a true testament to the deep love and vows they shared.
A proud, lifelong resident of Tallahassee, Dixie’s blood ran Garnet and Gold. She was a passionate, fiercely loyal lover of all things Florida State University and legendary coach Bobby Bowden. Known for her sharp wit and unapologetic authenticity, Dixie’s unwavering loyalty to her team was best summed up in her own famous, candid words: “If you ain’t a Seminole, you ain’t Sh*t.”
Dixie’s greatest joy, however, was her family. She is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Smallwood and Lezli Payne Welge; her five cherished grandchildren; and her precious great-granddaughter. She also leaves behind many beloved cousins and extended family members who will miss her vibrant energy and steadfast presence. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Laurie Williams.
Dixie’s legacy of fierce love, loyalty, and humor will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her family takes comfort in knowing she has gained her wings, undoubtedly cheering on her Seminoles from the best seat in the house.
Celebration of life will be held at the Wormuth’s second home: Hobbit American Grill (Crawfordville Highway), 5032 Capital Circle SW on June 27th, 3pm-5pm.
We invite everyone to wear Garnet and Gold in honor of Dixie.
