

Doris was born August 14, 1927, in Crawfordville, Florida, to Daniel Curtis Spears and Lilla Ethel Lynn Spears and was the youngest of eight children. She married Vernon Leroy Allen on June 23, 1951, in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and together they raised a family of five children.
Doris’ life revolved around her children. She was a loving, giving mother and friend and always looked for the good in everyone she met no matter how hard she had to look to find it. Because of her kind words and caring approach, everyone who knew her loved her. She was devoted to and protective of her whole extended family.
Doris worked as a bookkeeper, as an assistant librarian at Ruediger Elementary School, and then for the Leon County School Board in the Accounts Payable department. She often spoke with fondness of her co-workers and worked until age 72.
Doris was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she taught for many years in the children’s Primary, and later as a Sunday School teacher and Seminary teacher.
She was preceeded in death by her husband Vernon, her son Brian, her parents, her three sisters, Varol Lines, Grace Tucker and Jewell Griner, and brothers Dan, Louis and Lowell.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Kent (Chuck), Laura Aguilar (Luis), Becky Arey (Dale), and Linda Schank (Rodney), 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Family will receive visitors at MeadowWood Memorial Park at 700 Timberlane Road from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 5.
The funeral will be held Friday, October 6, at 12:00 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 3717 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee.
