

Edward T. Mooney "Buddy", age 92, of Tallahassee, Florida passed away Friday March 9, 2012.
Mr. Mooney was born July 5, 1919 in Syracuse, New York, to Sara Hoover Mooney and Thomas E. Mooney. Mr. Mooney was married to the late Allie Mooney for 55 years. Born in the depression era Mr. Mooney worked very hard to achieve his education and develop his career. He attended an engineering technical school in Baltimore, MD, and received his engineering degree from the University of Miami as well as higher learning at Harvard. He was Chief, Bureau of Standards, Division of Purchasing for the Department of General Services for thirty-five years and upon his retirement received a resolution in his honor from Governor Bob Graham for developing one of the most sophisticated commodity-testing laboratories in the country He was a lifetime member of American Standards for Testing Materials and was awarded the Honorary Title of Fellow, past president of the International Coalition for Procurement Standards. Mr. Mooney had a great talent for public speaking and was highly sought after during his active career and in his retirement. He continued his passion for advocating for consumer issues with government officials all the way until his death. Mr. Mooney spent his childhood in Ohio and Baltimore, MD. He lived his early adulthood in Miami, FL and ultimately Tallahassee became his home for the last forty nine years. His home here in Tallahassee reflected his talent and skill for carpentry and renovation. More importantly his home was where his Purple Martins and Bluebirds, Joe and Sally brought him great pleasure and he felt honored that they continued to return year after year. He always put his family first and loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was always known as "Pa Pa" to them. Dad loved his Cadillac "Black Beauty" and restored many a wrecked vehicle in his younger years. We always referred to them as "Mooney-mobiles" which we were all proud to own! Mr. Mooney is survived by his daughters, Rosie White (Bill), Janet Watford (Jimmy), Cookie Mooney, Donna Tillman (Quinton); grandsons, Micah Johnson (Jaimie), Stephen Tillman (Candice), Wesley Tillman (Alisha), Jeff Watford (Susan), Jason Watford (Faith), J.D. Watford; great-grandchildren, Lyric Johnson, Jude Edward Johnson, Madelyn Watford, Kyle Watford, Amelia Watford, Gwendolyn Watford, Isaac Watford; extended "family", Sassy, Rocky, Buddy, Lucky, Abbey and Nash.In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his wife Allie; baby boy, Edward Thomas, Jr.; sisters Mary and Alice; and brother, James.Private services were held in Tallahassee, Florida. A Man leaves his mark on the world with the love he gives his children. Daddy, Pa Pa, Buddy, this was you. You will forever be in our hearts.
