I don’t even know where to start. My heart is broken. To his son Michael, and Daughter Caroline..... your father was such a great man! Spoke of the two of you often with such a heart full of love. So proud of you both. I worked with your dad when I was in college as a dental hygiene student. Such great memories. Lots of laughs! Went out on my first deep sea fishing excursion with him. Being a girl from Kansas... that was a big deal! 😊 Connected with your dad again about 6 years ago. We texted weekly and always looked forward to hearing from him. Your dad held a huge place in my heart! Last I spoke to him he was heading up north to his reunion. Hadn’t heard from him , got worried.... then saw the obituary. I can only imagine the pain and sorrow in your hearts. My deepest sympathy goes out to you and please know your father was so loved and respected. He loved the two of you deeply and only wanted happiness for you both. I’m beside myself that my friend will no longer be there for our weekly communication. Actually, at a loss as for words . My heart feels empty knowing I cannot speak with him. As I’m sure your does too. All my prayers go out to you both and his family. God has a great new arrival.

I worked with Dr. Zapert for many years while at the Department of Health. I first knew him as a gifted colleague and advocate for dental services for the underprivileged. I later knew him as a close friend. He made our community a better place. I am so sorry he left us so soon.

End it was a great guy. He was always so personable and cheerful. He did his public health job with great enthusiasm and dedication and commitment to improving access to care for the underserved. I particularly remember him willing to go out on a limb to get certain things done. I will always cherish and remember the times I spent with him.
