

Elaine (Lanie) Haigler Scovell of Tallahassee, Florida went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 20, 2012.
Lanie was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. She received her Bachelor and Masters in Education from Auburn University.
She married her high school sweetheart Darrell Scovell and they shared 40 wonderful years together. She is also survived by her two beautiful children Chris Taylor Scovell of Atlanta, Georgia, Ashley Scovell McDanal and husband Lane McDanal of Destin, Florida. She is survived by her father George Frederick Haigler of Montgomery, Alabama and her first cousin, Genie Hardin of Atlanta, Georgia, who was just like a sister to her, and other beloved family and friends.
Lanie was predeceased by her mother Helen Erwin Haigler.
Lanie taught school for over 36 years from preschool to sixth grade and she spent 22 years teaching at DeSoto Trail Elementary School. Her greatest love was to teach reading and writing to kindergarten and first grade students. Lanie loved spending time at the beach and in the mountains with family and friends. She also enjoyed her pets, gardening, and wildlife. A Celebration of Lanie's Life will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, January 27, 2012 at Killearn United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, it is Lanie's wish that you read a book to a child or make a donation to help raise awareness that lung cancer is not just a smoker's disease.
