Elizabeth Carol Eskew

Elizabeth Carol (“Bessie Carol”) Eskew passed away peacefully on Monday, October 13, 2025. She was 91 years old. A native of Tallahassee, FL, Carol was born on September 9, 1934 to Victor and Ina Gibbs Johnson. She was a life-long member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Tallahassee, graduated from Leon High School, where she was “Miss Leon High 1952,” a member of the May Day Court, attended Florida State University and was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Bessie Carol married John Burgess Eskew, a fighter pilot in the U.S. Naval Reserves. She and John then embarked on a life of service where Carol worked as the wife of a Naval Officer hosting many parties and events and raised three children, Catherine Elizabeth, John Brittain, and Charles Edward. Upon retirement from the military, they returned to Tallahassee where they enjoyed being close to family, friends, and Leon High classmates. Carol spent the last 20 years of her life at Westminster Oaks and we are ever grateful for the staff and support she received there.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister Frances Johnson Gilbert. She is survived by her children, five grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will take place at St. John’s Episcopal Church Cemetery, 10 AM Monday October 20th.
