Betty Sue McPhaul Kurth passed away August 19, 2018 at the age of 88. She was born to Frances Josephine (Fena) Yent and Thomas McPhaul on October 17, 1929 in Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated from Port St. Joe High School and attended Florida State University where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. After graduation from FSU, she taught briefly in Jackson County and then returned to Port St. Joe where she employed to teach in the local elementary school. It was there she met her future husband of 66 years, Richard.
Betty Sue, along with her husband for several years following their marriage, taught in a number of public schools throughout Florida. After teaching 20 plus years, she began a second career as a personal secretary in the Psychology Department and later int he Sociology Department at Florida State University.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, and her son Thomas Richard Kurth. She is survived by her daughter, Francile, and numerous cousins and friends. She never met a stranger.
A visitation will be held Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 3-5pm at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee, and the funeral will be held Monday, August 27, 2018 at 2pm at St. Peters Anglican Church on Thomasville Road.
