Ellis “Bubba” H. Brady (85 years), of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2021. He was a loving husband, father and papa. As a devoted Christian, Ellis was completely selfless in every way and a total southern gentleman. He had many accomplishments, but nothing was more important to him than his faith, family and friends. Ellis was a faithful follower of Christ and an active member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church. He was a rare, kind man who never met a stranger and was beloved by everyone who knew him.
He was born in Decatur, Georgia on October 26, 1935, to Virginia and Lynn Brady. In school he enjoyed playing football and loved all sports. After high school graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and proudly served his country. He achieved a degree from Troy University, and in October, 1959, he began his career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). Ellis began his career as a correctional officer at the United State Penitentiary, Atlanta, Georgia. During his career, he worked in several prison locations, holding positions in South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama and Kentucky. He was promoted and was transferred to Tallahassee in June, 1976, working at the Federal Correction Institution (FCI) in Tallahassee, Florida, where he served the majority of his career as the Employee Development Manager.
After 30 years with the BOP, he officially retired in October, 1990. However, Ellis continued working as a contract employee at FCI for another 15 years in the Food Service Department.
In his early years, he enjoyed softball with the church league and was an avid University of Alabama fan. He enjoyed following the Crimson Tide over the years and was thrilled by their recent run of success. For those who knew Ellis, he was synonymous with “Roll Tide”. Later in life, he fell in love with the game of golf and was often on the course with friends.
Known as Daddy, Bubba and Papa, Ellis is survived by Joy Brady, dearest love and caregiver; his brother, Dan Brady (Charlotte); and his children: Vicki Gates (Dennis), Andy Brady, Laurie Brady (Steve Dempsey), Kathie Mackie (Bill), Angela Rozar, and Paige Lilley (John) who were his committed daily caregivers for the last several years. He also left behind his beloved grandchildren: Christi Gates, Rebekah Harris (Dave), Craig Gates (Blair), Rachel Paulichen (John), Amanda Kowalker (Erik), Andrew Brady, Joshua Mackie, Caleb Mackie, Cody Brady, Allysa Mears, Addyson Rozar and Madelynn Lilley. He also loved his seven great-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Joan Peak and Linda Baggett.
A special thank you to Dr. Michael Forsthoefel and his medical team for the excellent care and compassion shown to Ellis throughout the years. We were all blessed by their continuous support.
