Esther Kosa Brahaney, age 104, passed away on September 8, 2018. She was born in Rankin, Pennsylvania and moved to Tallahassee in 1951 when her husband, James P. Brahaney (Jay) began his doctoral studies at Florida State University. Esther was retired from the Florida Supreme Court where she was the executive secretary to two Chief Justices of the Court. Esther was preceded in death by her husband Jay and two sons, John, who died shortly after birth and Patrick, who died in an automobile accident in 1967 at the age of 20, her brother, Alex Kosa, who died in WWII and her sister, Pearl K. Strefansik. Esther was a long time member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and more recently Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Her religious strength, loving attitude, and gift of giving to so many people and organizations helped her endure the tragedies which left her without family upon her death. She is survived by many dear and supportive friends in Tallahassee as well as loving relatives of her late husband. A memorial service will be held at Westminster Oaks Frances Chapel in the Parry Center Lower Level on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 2:00 PM.
