Ethel L Ballard

She grew up in the Tallahassee area and graduated from Leon High School in 1947.

Her life was centered around family and home. She raised 6 children that she loved dearly and was MeMaw to 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Ethel is survived by her children, Janyce Horton (Jim), John McFarland, Jeff McFarland (Kim) all of Tallahassee, Brenda Strickland and Susan Kilgore of Crawfordville; sisters, Dora Moore of Tallahassee, and Ruby Lee Harrison (Ralph) of Marianna.

She was active in her church throughout her life and was a charter member of Crossway Baptist. She also loved being a member of the choir.

She worked for the State of Florida for over 30 years. She still stayed in touch with several friends from work at the time of her passing.

After retirement, she enjoyed working in her yard and loved to walk. She walked many miles on the St. Marks Trail.

Her favorite past time from the time she could hold a book, was reading. A love she shared with her mother.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Bethel Ballard and Lyle Evans; daughter, Lucia McFarland Rogers; sisters, infant Maybelle Lewis, Doris Rivers; brothers, Hubert Lewis, Henry Lewis, Elbert Lewis; grandsons, Steven McFarland and Scott McFarland.

A visitation with reception for Ethel will be held Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32308. A funeral service will occur Friday, January 6, 2023 at Crossway Baptist Church, 405 Crossway Road, Tallahassee, FL 32305. A burial immediately following the service will occur at White Church Cemetery, Woodville, FL.
