Frank Valent Burke, Sr., 60, of Tallahassee, employed by St. Marks Powder for the last 40 years, passed away on Friday, September 30th from a sudden onset of severe pancreatitis. He is preceded in death by parents, Eugene Francis Burke, Sr., and Theresa Ann Burke; one sister, Miki Burke Tait; one son, Frank Valent Burke, Jr.; two nephews, Lon Kitzmiller and Robby Law. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Gloria Jean Bass Burke; daughters, Valencia (Todd) Hallowell, Frankie Burke Wylie (Greg), Amy T. Burke; brother, Eugene Francis “Butch” Burke, Jr. (Melanie) and Tina Burke Crane (Bragg); seven grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as his beloved Amber and Sir Valent Kutas Cranium. He also leaves behind a legacy in the local fast pitch softball community that is unmatched. Frank coached in the competitive softball circuit (Tallahassee Merchants) since 1990. Services will be held at the St. Marks Powder Picnic Grounds (Highway 98) on Tuesday, October 4th from 3:30pm to 6:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
