Gary was born in Evergreen Park, Illinois, on January 15, 1948 to the late Evelyn and Bruno Tomaszewski. He attended Oak Lawn High School, Moraine Valley Community College and focused all his attention on the Radiologic Technologist Program. After graduation he completed his Bachelor of Science degree at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
After college he taught the radiology technologist program at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, Illinois for two years. Tired of the cold and snow he moved to Cocoa, Florida and taught at Brevard Community College in their radiology technologist program. In 1984 he moved to Tallahassee to manage the State of Florida Radiologic Technology licensing office and stayed with the state until 2000. For a change of pace he started working as a bookkeeper for Chaires Elementary School until his retirement in 2010.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Bruno and Evelyn Tomaszewski and a brother Tracey Lynn. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Louise M. Tomaszewski; his son, Kevin P. Tomaszewski and wife, Pamela of Tallahassee, FL and his daughter Melissa E. Campbell and husband Chris of Lloyd, FL. His sister, Nancy B. Wheeler of Cocoa FL and sister-in-law, Rosanne J. and husband, Stanley R. of Jacksonville FL. Nephews, Brian F. Olejniczak of Myrtle Beach, SC; Adam C. Olejniczak of Sandy Springs GA; Thomas L. Olejniczak of Jacksonville, FL and Matthew E. Wheeler of Cocoa FL. He also had numerous cousins in Michigan, Missouri, California and Florida.
Gary enjoyed being involved in Chaires Elementary School PTO; Lincoln High School Band Boosters; Florida State Society of Radiologic Technologists and Florida Society of Nuclear Medicine Technologists. He was a member of the American Society of Magicians; the Order of DeMolay; a Freemason; member of Scottish rite and Shriners.
Gary loved anything Disney and that was a major reason to move to Florida. He was still an enthusiastic fan of any and every Chicago team-especially DA BEARS. Until ill health curtailed him, he enjoyed traveling the United States; first with his parents and then with his wife and family.
Our family would like to thank the multitudes of doctors, nurses, nurse aides, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists at Tallahassee Memorial Health Care; Select Specialty Hospital and Tallahassee Memorial Rehab Center for helping Gary through several medical crises in the past several years.
