George Henry Watterson, 92, of Tallahassee, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, surrounded by family. He was born February 11, 1934 in Live Oak, Florida, the son of a tobacco farmer. It was there that he developed his strong work ethic and desire to become successful. After graduating high school, he joined the Army and served his country. Once out of the military, he enrolled at Florida State University graduating in just three years. Shortly after graduating, he began his forty-year career with Allstate Insurance Company.
George was known for his integrity and business acumen and found happiness and contentment in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing on the flats, a beautiful spring day and listening to the birds on the back porch. He enjoyed watching Florida State football (when they’re good); but mostly enjoyed time with family. He cultivated a thankful heart for the simple things; leaving behind a spirit of gratitude and great example of a life well-lived.
George is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carol L. Watterson; his children, Kim Watterson, Paige Twyman (Patrick), Eric Watterson (Jana), Amy Watterson, and four grandchildren; Hayley Twyman Curry, Reed Watterson, Drew Watterson, and Ivy Watterson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Posie Watterson, and siblings, Charles Watterson, Frances Mott, and Margaret Howard.
A private family memorial service was held at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home and Memorial Park on April 10, 2026. The family is grateful for the care that George received at Big Bend Hospice and donations may be made there in his honor.
