Gerald Hampton Stoutamire

Jerry was born on November 6, 1938, in Decatur County, Georgia, to Malcolm Lloyd Stoutamire and Frances Mills Stoutamire, who preceded him in death.

Jerry was raised in rural Decatur County, Georgia, starting out with no electricity or indoor plumbing. He attended Climax H.S. after graduation, he attended ABAC, Georgia Tech, and Southern Tech earning a degree in civil engineering and proudly served the US Navy as a Seabee. Jerry then began his career with the Georgia State Highway Dept. in Atlanta and eventually moved to Tallahassee to be closer to home where he worked for the Florida Dept. of Transportation as a roadway engineer until his retirement in 1994. He closed out his professional career with EC Driver & Assoc. in the private engineer sector.

In 1964, Jerry married the love of his life, Ruth Jacqueline Bryant, lovingly known as Jackie. They had two sons that they adored and raised in Tallahassee, Florida and shared 42 wonderful years together until her passing in 2006. In 2010, God brought Vicki Blanton of Thomasville, Georgia, into Jerry’s life. Their companionship blossomed into a beautiful 16-year relationship that remained strong until his passing.

Jerry found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was a gifted craftsman who enjoyed handmaking knives and was an avid turkey hunter and true woodsman. He was especially known for his legendary fish frys, where family gathered not only for great food but for fellowship, stories, and laughter.

Those who knew Jerry will always remember his unmistakable Southern accent, his generous heart, his willingness to lend a helping hand, and his deep love for his family. In his final years, Jerry became close with The Lord and his love for Jesus Christ. His faith, humility, and kindness left an enduring example for all who knew him.

Jerry is survived by his two sons, Hamp Stoutamire (and wife Tania) and Chris Stoutamire (and wife Lisa), his grandson Sterling (and wife Emilee), of Tallahassee, Florida, his loving companion Vicki Blanton of Thomasville, GA and his two beloved cats, Harley and Lucy Liu.

Although our hearts are saddened by his passing, we rejoice in knowing that Jerry has been welcomed into the presence of his Savior and reunited with loved ones who have gone before him. His legacy of faith, service, love, and integrity will continue to live on in the lives of those he touched.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 7, 2026 at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32308. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so to Bannerman Baptist Church, P.O. Box 15553 Tallahassee, FL 32317.
