Geraldine (Geri) Maher Flynn of Tallahassee passed away on March 18th, 2024. She was born in Bronxville, New York on August 7th, 1931 to Elmer and Emma Maher.
Throughout her life Geri possessed great beauty and poise and upon high school graduation was encouraged to pursue modeling in New York City, which was no small endeavor for the youngest of seven siblings and also visually impaired. Upon moving from the family home in Pelham Manor, Geri navigated the subway system and streets of New York City with ease. She quickly found work as a runway model at Bergdorf Goodman. During this time Geri received her college degree from Penn Hall.
After graduation Geri met and fell in love with a handsome Navy guy named Frank Flynn. They quickly married and honeymooned down the East Coast. Frank and Geri settled in Tallahassee and raised four children; Bonnie, Frankie, Pat, and Mike.
Geri worked as Fashion Coordinator and also modeled at Rheinauers in the Northwood Mall from the early 1970’s through 1984 and served as president of the Leon County Handicapped Group from 1974 to 1975.
The family resided in Tallahassee, however Frank and Geri’s mutual love of the beach led them to build a second home on St. George Island, where they enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
In later years and with limited vision, Geri listened to books on tape courtesy of The Bureau of Braille and Talking Book Library Services and also enjoyed her outings with her Bible study group and The Red Hats Society.
Frank and Geri were married for 67 years and were true soulmates. Although she was in good health at 92, she found it difficult to live without him.
Geri was predeceased by her husband Frank and her daughter Bonnie. She is survived by her son Frank (Paige), her son Pat (Grace), and her son Mike, along with grandchildren Stephanie Jackson (MJ), Scott Flynn, Jacob Flynn, Hannah Flynn, and Peyton Flynn, and great granddaughter Kendall Graham.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Forsthoefel and his staff at Southern Medical Group for the care she and dad received for many years, and her wonderful neighbors for the afternoon visits and sweet treats.
Visitation will be Monday, March 25th from 5 to 7 at Culley’s on Timberlane Road. Funeral Mass will be at 11:30, Tuesday, March 26th at Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
