Glenda graduated from Bay High School in 1963 and attended Gulf Coast Community College. She resided in Panama City until she married Alan Culbreth on September 4, 1966.
While Alan attended the University of Alabama Glenda was a proud member of Alabama Danes Club. While in Tuscaloosa she worked for the Crimson White newspaper. During the summer of 1967 Alan and Glenda spent a summer working and traveling in Alaska. After graduation they settled in Tallahassee, Florida where they would eventually raise their three children.
Glenda’s career at the Leon County School Board began at Raa Middle School and ended 35 years later as an Administrative Assistant for Extra Curricular Activities. Throughout her career her title changed but Glenda jokingly would say that they can call her anything they wanted to but she was just a Secretary.
Those that worked with her did not see her a ‘just’ anything. She was more than that. Glenda formed life long friendship with her coworkers, forged beautiful relationships with her three different bosses and kept all the various coaches, referees and deputies on task. She loved serving the community through her time at the school board.
While being a wife and mother she also liked to volunteer. She always had cupcakes for the children to take to school for various occasions. Most of the summer months were spent volunteering with the Big Bend Junior Golf Association. She was also a member of the Orange Blossom Circle of the Tallahassee Garden Club.
With the birth of her grandchildren she earned the name Gigi. She attended every event for the grandchildren that she could. She loved each one of her grandchildren and bragged on them every chance she would get.
In retirement she loved to go on cruises. For Alan and Glenda’s 50th wedding anniversary they went on an Alaskan cruise.
Glenda had many wonderful qualities about her that you can see in her children. The crafty DIY in Cheryl and her unwavering love for her daughters, sense of humor in Tim and in Olivia the volunteer spirit along with the need to feed the neighborhood. She also passed along the love for the beach and all things water related along to her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Alan Culbreth; sister, Jane (Cliff) Fleming; son, Tim (Laura) Culbreth; daughter, Olivia (Jeff) Starling; daughter, Cheryl Gonatos; grandchildren, Brooke and Nicole Gonatos, Timothy Starling and Bradley Culbreth.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Catherine and Truman Kirby; brother, Michael Kirby; grandchildren, John Boesen and Kirby Starling.
