
Harold Bruce McIver, 65, of Tallahassee passed away on Wednesday July 1, 2015 at his home. A native of North Wilkesboro, NC, Bruce entered the US Navy in 1968 and served in the Vietnam War. He was a three time recipient of the Purple Heart Medal. His awards for valor in combat include the Silver Star Medal, Bronze Star w/V, Navy Commendation Medal w/V and Navy Achievement Medal w/V. After Vietnam he continued his education at Florida State University. In 1974 he founded a successful real estate consulting company primarily representing private land owners with agencies of the State of Florida. Bruce was also a proud member and an active participant of the Tallahassee Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Bruce was a life time supporter of the Florida State University football program and he enjoyed taking his children to the games from the time they were babies. He was always involved in his children’s activities and helped coach their soccer, football, and baseball teams and never once missed a swim meet the four years that his children swam for Maclay Aquatic Club. His family was his heart.
Bruce is survived by his daughter, Leah McIver Atkin (husband Chris) and son Michael McIver (wife Joanna). He is also survived by his grandchildren Payton, Gabe, Gracyn and Ryker and his brother, Roderick (wife Cynthia) McIver of Pinehurst, NC.
Bruce will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery. A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, 2015 from 6-7 p.m. at the “Hootch” next to The American Legion at Lake Ella, 229 Lake Ella Drive.
