Helen was born November 19, 1922 in Lakeland, GA to Charlie W. and Beulah Boyett Fountain. Helen was descended from William and Richard Bradford who came to America on the Mayflower. She possessed documentation entitling her to membership in the Daughters of the Revolution and Daughters of the Confederacy. She and her parents moved to Jacksonville, FL where her sister, Eloise Beulah Fountain was born April 7, 1925 and their mother died in childbirth. When Helen was seven years old, her father married Alice Orr Smith, a widow and Helen gained a little brother, Lawton Smith. Helen grew up in Jacksonville and attended John Gorrie Jr. High and Robert E. Lee High School. During World War II, she enlisted in the U.S. Army and became a surgical medical technician. She loved the discipline of the military, loved the medical field and dreamed of becoming a nurse. However, her dreams changed when she met the love of her life, LeRoy Reynolds, who was stationed with her at Newton D. Baker Army Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia. They were married on April 1, 1946 and received honorable discharges from the Army. They moved to Kansas City, Mo where their daughter and only child, Laura Dee, was born. In 1952, they moved to Jacksonville, where they remained until 1989. During their years in Jacksonville, Helen was a member of Murray Hill Baptist Church and Normandy Baptist Temple, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Helen loved being a homemaker. Her life revolved around her husband and daughter. She was an excellent seamstress and loved working in her yard. In 1989, following the deaths of her parents, she and Lee moved to Havana, FL to be near their daughter and grandchildren. At the time of her death, Helen was a member of Havana First Baptist Church.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, LeRoy D. (Lee) Reynolds. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Eloise Fountain Marshall.
She is survived by her daughter Laura Queen (Johnny) of Havana, FL, grandson Scott Queen (Anna-Kate) and their children Sean and Asia of Stockbridge, GA, granddaughter Christy Grant (Carter) and their children Camryn, Jared and Jace of Monticello, FL, and granddaughter Julie Queen of Tallahassee, FL. She is also survived by her brother, Lawton Smith (Eleanor) of Jacksonville, her niece, Linda Stroud (Phil) of Wake Forest, NC, her nephew, Mark Smith (Portia) of Gainesville, FL and her niece Laura Smith, of Jacksonville, FL
Funeral services will be held at Culley Meadowood Funeral Home on Timberlane Road in Tallahassee, FL 7:00PM, Thursday, August 26, 2010, visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM.
