

Mrs. Hilda Estelle Grant Winterle, 88, of Tallahassee, Florida died peacefully at home on Thursday, August 20, 2015, following a prolonged illness. Hilda was born September 14, 1926 in West Palm Beach, Florida to Blonza Langston and Sylvester Alfonzo Grant. The family moved to Tallahassee around 1928 when Hilda was two years old, after her father joined the family business, Grant Furniture Company. Hilda graduated from Leon High School Class of 1944. She attended the Florida State College for Women, (now FSU), majoring in Home Economics, and graduating with a degree in Education in 1948. She was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority. Upon graduation, Hilda had a brief teaching career at both Havana and Quincy School Districts, teaching Home Economics.
Hilda met her beloved husband to be, Charles Joseph Winterle (Joe), while attending a teen party at Trinity United Methodist Church. Joe and Hilda were married on June 22, 1950 and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past June. Hilda’s interests included cooking, sewing, playing bridge, entertaining family and friends, as well as sailing and beach parties at their weekend home at Shell Point. Hilda also authored several books of recipes and lessons on etiquette and social entertaining. Hilda loved to dance and was a member of the Capital City Cloggers of Tallahassee.
Hilda is survived by her husband, Joe Winterle; daughters, Jo Lynn Winterle, Glenda Simmons and Laura Mullinax (Marty); grandchildren, Ryan Pream, Georgetown, Cayman Islands, April Simmons, Orlando, FL, Kathlynn Carr, San Antonio, TX , Lauren Mullinax, Lakeland, FL, sister-in-law, Irene Yerger and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Joyce Grant Love and Glenda Herring Anderson, and infant granddaughter Angela Simmons. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer’s Project of Tallahassee, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church or Covenant Hospice.
Funeral arrangements will be conducted by Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home in Tallahassee. Visitation will be on Sunday, Aug. 23,2015 from 2pm-4pm at Culley’s Riggins Rd. Services will be at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church on Monday, Aug. 24, 2015 at 11:00 AM.
