
Hildegard Wagner Schow of Tallahassee, Florida died at age 83 on November 13, 2017. Born on May 30, 1934 in Foeni, Romania to Peter Wagner and Elizabeth Sterk Wagner, Hilde immigrated to the United States in 1948 with her mother and two brothers, and settled in Tallahassee, Florida.
A master of five languages and an avid tennis player, Hilde received her B.A. in 1955 and M.A. in 1956 in Modern Languages from FSU. While teaching at Clemson University, she met Horace Schow II, a then Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, who predeceased her. Married on June 30, 1958, they, along with their three children, embarked on a 20-year journey around the world with assignments in South Carolina, Virginia, Boston, France, Germany and Taiwan.
Hilde is survived by three children, namely: Mary E. Schow and husband James C. Crellin (both of Jackson, MS), Peter H. Schow (Longmont, CO) and Alice Schow Bowman (Sarasota, FL) and four grandchildren, namely: Marie C. Schow (Santa Fe, NM), Paul A. Schow (Highlands Ranch, CO), Caroline D. Bowman (New York City) and Madeline J. Bowman (Sarasota & Gainesville, FL); and brothers: Hans O. Wagner (Huntsville, AL) and Paul H. Wagner (Tallahassee, FL). In lieu of fowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Catholic Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee. Services will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
