Charlie served in the United States Army for 4 years and was stationed at Fort Rucker Alabama and Alaska. He was known for his bravery serving as a firefighter in the Army Aircraft Fire and Rescue. He also was in the Reserves for 2 years. He received honors in code of conduct and expert badge “Rifles M-14.” He received his Honorable Discharge in 1972 after completion of the Standby Reserves.
He later returned to Florida and worked for the Leon County Parks and Recreation Department before transitioning to FSU’s Nursery and Landscaping for many years.
Charlie is survived by his son, Howard Heath Kendrick of North Carolina; sisters, Kathy MacNeil of Cleaveland, TX and Mary Mathis of Tallahassee, FL; nephews, Charles Glover, of Tallahassee, FL, Richard Bennett, of TX and Tony Belk, of Tallahassee, FL; and nieces, Angie Meeks, of Alabama and LaNett Dennis, of South Carolina.
His knowledge, humor and willing to help any way he could will be greatly missed. “We love you much.”
