James Herndon of Tallahassee passed away January 8 at his home in Tallahassee . He was 81. He was a resident of Tallahassee for the past 41 years. He was born March 14, 1932 in Santa Rosa County, Florida and was raised in Holt, Florida. He entered the United States Navy in 1950 after high school graduation and on the eve of the Korean War. He participated in both the Inchon invasion and the evacuation of Hungnam during that conflict. He returned home to Florida after being discharged in 1953 and was employed by The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles for the next 39 years, retiring in 1993 as assistant Bureau Chief of Field Operations. He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge, Crestview and Hadji Shrine Temple, Pensacola. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of 58 years, two sons James (wife Nancy) of Tallahassee and Michael also of Tallahassee, granddaughters Jessica of Tallahassee and Caitlyn of Orlando.
