Jan Calvin

Jan Calvin (77), an FSU graduate and retired schoolteacher, from Tallahassee, FL passed away Thursday, September 4, 2025. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Calvin and sister, Amy Carol. Jan is survived by sisters Allison Berry (John), Elizabeth Taylor and Suzanne Tompkins; niece Kristy Mostyn; nephews David Tompkins (Kendra), David Taylor (Rachel), Mark Taylor and Tim Taylor; great-nieces Brynnlee Mostyn, Ivy Allred and Parker Tompkins.

Jan was a faithful member of Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, where she was also a member of The Daughters of the King. Jan devoted much of her life to rescuing dogs and teaching children (fostering early literacy, their love of reading and promoting their self-confidence). She volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, as an adult reading coach, for the Leon County Humane Society, Tallahassee Big Dog Rescue and Meals on Wheels.

Jan loved her family, friends, animals, football, music and reading. She had a good humored nature, a beautiful singing voice, and a talent for playing the piano and ukelele. She is dearly missed and remembered by family and friends as a genuinely kind, loving and gentle soul.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm on Friday, September 12th at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church (2015 Fleischmann Rd, Tallahassee, FL 32308). After a brief reception at the church, a graveside service will be held at Roselawn Cemetery (843 Piedmont Dr, Tallahassee, FL 32312).
