On May 31, 2018, Earline McBride Minor, loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Born to Lizzie Eugenia and Earl McBride on March 21, 1929, in Macclenny, Florida, Earline was the third of five daughters. Her upbringing in Lake City, Florida included the development of a strong spiritual relationship with her Lord and Savior through her involvement in the First United Methodist Church.
At Columbia High School in Lake City, she excelled academically. As part of the 1947 graduating class, Earline served as President of the National Honor Society and Thespian Society. She was honored to be chosen the D.A.R. Good Citizen. Her classmates voted her "Most Intellectual." She continued her education pursuing a degree from Massey Business College in Jacksonville, Florida. Upon graduation, she returned to Lake City. She became executive secretary to the district engineer at the State Road Department's Lake City Branch. Her striking black hair and ivory complexion caught the eye of her neighbor, Jacob Clement Minor, whom she married in 1953. After the birth of her first daughter, Earline permanently retired to become a full time mother.
In 1996, Earline and Jack moved to Tallahassee from Lake City after the birth of their granddaughter. Her family brought her the greatest joy. She was able to watch her grandchildren grow and and be a part of many cherished memories with her much loved daughters and their families. As her health declined, her memory and abilities faded. However, her strong faith and determination were a testament to all who knew her every day of her blessed life. Even through her declining years, God's mercy was evident. She was able to have her family and wonderful caregivers with her continuously.
Earline is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sisters Miriam Ward, Flora Mae ("Bordie") Brinkley, and Braunda Bauman. She is survived by sister, Ann Hasley (Walter), and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her two daughters, Jacqueline Eugenia Mayfield (Wesley), Janie Marie Knight (William) a grandson, William King Knight III and a granddaughter, Maria Eugenia Knight (fiance Kyle Davidson), all of Tallahassee.
A private family service celebrating Earline's life will be held Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Culley's on Timberlane Road. Her family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone at Big Bend Hospice who offered much love, support, and compassion during the many months she was under their exceptional care.
