Jerry was born on April 5, 1960 to Raymond and Marleen Kolman in Chicago, IL. In 1990 he met the love of his life, Rosemary (Lucas) Kolman and the two married soon after. In 1993 he excitedly encouraged his wife to relocate to Tallahassee, Florida (promising no palm trees), after spending years in the Chicago-land area. It was in Tallahassee where he established himself as a certified Orthotist. Jerry found great joy in the patients he served during his time at Rehab Engineering and Hanger Orthotics and Prosthetics and developed friendships that continued years after stepping down due to health complications.
Jerry enjoyed many things in life, but by far his greatest accomplishments were raising his four children with Rose. Together their family enjoyed many adventures including spending time outdoors biking, hiking, camping, and boating. Jerry was known for his quick wit-never missing an opportunity to bring humor and a genuine smile to the room.
He was a man of great faith and served his Good Shepherd Catholic Church community in different ways over the years. He was an active member of the Men of Good Shepherd, Knights of Columbus, Blessed Sacrament Adoration, CRHP and TMIY. He enjoyed serving others and could be found making sets for various Trinity Catholic School plays or offering his handy-man skills to others.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Kolman, nephew Jordan Carruth and many beloved aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Kolman, his children, Megan (William) Byrne, Erin (Houston) Palmer, Kelly Kolman, and Austin Kolman, his mother, Marleen Kolman, his sisters Lynn (Mike) Carruth, Cindee (Jeff) Moeller, Grandchildren Emma, Caroline, Matthew, and Claire Byrne along with many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends who became family.
His family wishes to thank his extensive healthcare team in Tallahassee and at Shands Hospital in Gainesville for their support and compassionate care over the years.
A public visitation for Jerry will be held Tuesday, September 3, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32312. A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, September 4, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 4665 Thomasville Rd, Tallahassee, Florida 32309.
