

She was born in Plant City on August 4, 1919, and in 1937 she married Carl Dean Cassels also from Plant City. After living 9 years in Clearwater and 3 years in Tampa, they moved to Tallahassee in 1955 where he finished his career as a Major with the Florida Highway Patrol, and she retired from the State Treasurer’s Office. She has been a faithful member of First Baptist Church for 59 years where she is widely known for her outgoing personality, beautiful smile, her deep Christian faith, and her love for her family as well as for her church family .
She was preceded in death by Carl Cassels, her husband of 64 years, and Dean Cassels, her older son. She is survived by her younger son, Leon Cassels (Joan); her daughter-in-law Betty Conerly Cassels (widow of Dean Cassels) of Starke; 6 grandchildren: Selina Armstrong (Rob) of Jacksonville, Dale Cassels (Renee) of Starke, Lynn Milner (Mark) of Tallahassee, Lisa Starnes (Chris) of Tallahassee, Laura Summerlin (Zack) of Tallahassee, and Tina Jenkins (Jerry) of Blountstown; 8 great-grandchildren: Brandon Scheetz, Dylan Cassels, Shianne Cassels, Brayden Cassels, Aria Conover, Drew Starnes, Devin Starnes, EmmaLin Starnes.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 P.M. in the First Baptist Church of Tallahassee, and the family will receive friends in the church Welcome Center from 12:00 to 1:30 preceding the service. A graveside service will follow in Culley’s MeadowWood at 700 Timberlane Road under the care of Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Homes & Memorial Park.
