Jimmie Rogers Gregory passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022, after living a life filled with friends and family. She was born in Dooling, Georgia on August 29, 1926, to Ruth Williams Rogers and Alvin Raymond Rogers. When Jimmie was 4, the family moved to Dania Florida, where she grew into a young woman and graduated from South Broward High School. From there she followed her sister Ruth to the Florida State College for Women and was present for the transition to Florida State University after WWII.
Jimmie became acquainted with her future husband, John Bascum Gregory, in Dania right after the war, where they had both grown up. After her first date with John, she told her mother, “This is the man that I am going to marry,” and indeed they married on June 25, 1948. They had three children, John Rogers Gregory (died 2010), Suzanne Gregory Printy (Gary), and Dianne Gregory (Nancy Gotthart), while they built their life together, first farming tomatoes in Dania and then, after John graduated from the University of Miami School of Law and passed the Florida Bar, practicing law in Fort Lauderdale. Not content to stay at home, Jimmie became John’s first secretary and later office manager as more secretaries were added to his solo practice.
After her husband John’s untimely death in 1975, Jimmie herself attended Nova Law School and passed the Florida Bar on her first attempt. While practicing law in South Florida, she was also the president of the Fort Lauderdale chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners from 1989 to 1990 and ran for the Florida Legislature from Broward County in 1992.
Jimmie was also a devoted grandmother to Gary Lee Printy (Caroline Cynn), John Robert Printy (Angela Amissah), Marshall Rogers Printy (Kara Keefe), and Cecilia Ruth Printy, eventually moving to Tallahassee so that she could be more a part of her grandchildren’s lives and attend their graduations and weddings. At the end of her life, her great-grandchildren numbered eight (Claire, Gary Lee and Noelle Printy; Margaret, John, James, and Benjamin Printy; and Sky Gutierrez). She was loved by her children, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren, and many friends in both South Florida and Tallahassee, including in the community of Westminster Oaks.
The family gives many thanks to the staff of Westminster Oaks, particularly Stephanie Marshall.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2022 in the Maguire Center at Westminster Oaks, 4449 Meandering Way, Tallahassee, FL 32308. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Employee Gift Fund c/o Westminster Residents’ Council 4449 Meandering Way Talla, FL 32308.
