My deepest condolences to Joan's family. She chaired the FONE Recognition Committee the year I was selected (1993). She was very kind to my family and the made the evening special. A great Nurse Leader, Joan's legacy will live on for the benefit of many patients.

Joan was a long-time member of the Florida Organization of Nurse Executives.  She was a role model to many, and to me as an emerging nurse leader. Joan was the recipient of the 1992 FONE Nurse Leader award, a high honor for a well-respected professional.  

My deepest condolences to her family.  ALS is a terrible disease, it must have been a difficult journey.  May she rest in peace.

I will always remember Joan.  It was so nice to see her smiling face every day at work. I was a new nurse out of school in 1992 and looked up to her.

My sincere condolences to DeLisle & family of Joan.  I had known Joan since about 5th grade & she was truly a terrific lady & friend.She will be greatly missed  by all in her everyday world I'm sure.  Her family & friends have suffered a real loss, & she would surely want us all to be thankful for for her great friendship.  We were fortunate to have her friendship in our worlds. Joan's spirit, energy, intellect, compassion and wit will always be a great inspiration to me. We are all blessed to have been a part of the lives she touched.

The world has lost a beautiful spirit. I'll never forget her kind and gracious manner. Joan was an inspiration to all of us that worked at TMH on the 11-7 shift. No matter how challenged we were, she always made us believe in ourselves and our abilities. She was an excellent nurse, a stong patient advocate and a "mother" to us all. To Joan's Children and Grandchildren:

Rarely a day goes by that I do not pass along advice given me by your mom/grandmother when we worked together at TMH.  She told me it was her 'motto'.   "Proceed until apprehended".

It was good advice then and it still is!  Take care.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Joan was a wonderful caretake and vigilant protector of many patients that received nursing care at TMH, including those that she never met.  She was respected by us all.

Joan became one of the "Brown" family when she married DeLisle.  She will be greatly missed at our family gatherings and she was loved.  A very remarkable lady.

I remember Ms. Futch when I was a student nurse & upon graduation when she interviewed me to work on Pediatrics. She was very kind & genuinely interested in "her nurses." She made a great impression on my back then & that was 32 years ago. May she rest in peace.

Wanted to say I remember that she was an incredible lady and a wonderful hostess.  Remember going to swim at her house w/ the youth at FBC.  She raised a wonderful family and gave back to her community over and over.

"Joanie Mae" (my nickname for her) were best friends from 7th grade on thru college days; in each others weddings,lost touch after babies, distance; reconnected at AJHS reunion 07!

Joan and I attended nursing school together 50 years ago and during that time we have had no contact until recently via e-mail. I reminded Joan that I always admired her meticlous appearance and never was a brown hairstrand misplaced.She in turn, shared a comical situation we had experienced in the operating room with a Doctor. I had totally forgotten and laughed hysterically once again.I am thankful we were able to share these memories tho many years have passed. I extend my condolences to Joan's family and friends and Joan, to you I say thank you for your friendship and kindness to a gal from the North who felt lost for a time in the South. You were there for me! I know our Lord is with you as you journey on to your new home with Him!

Joan was the dearest friend anyone could ever wish for.  Even though our relationship had a very unusual beginning, I knew her love and caring could never be questioned. I've known Joan since elementry school at North Shore.   I remember a pretty little girl with dark pure complection and dark brown hair.   She was also academic superior.   I was close but couldn't quiet match her.  Like so many, I lost track of her after our days at Andrew Jackson.  She contributed a lot to so many during her life.   Now she has been promoted to glory.

As a paramedic for nearly 11 years, I've seen my share of "death". It wasn't long before I realized that if something had a beginning, it will have an end - including each one of us. That's the nature of everything on this planet. Our existence in this body wasn't, is, and won't be. The only thing that can never die is Life itself. Life itself was, is, and will be.

When we transition to the "other side" we return to our Source - Life itself. Therefore, there is no death. Our spirit is freed from the bonds and limitations of our human forms, but our spirit lives on.

To grieve is normal, but an ancient saying states, "When you grieve with someone you water their garden of sorrow." This is yet another reminder to praise our Creator and be grateful for every breath, for each breath brings with it the precious gift of life.

In other words, your Creator is never any further from you than your next breath. Rejoice! Blessings to DeLisle and his family.

Joanie and I were classmates years ago at St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing.  I will always treasure the many fond memories shared during those difficult but rewarding three years.  It has been wonderful seeing her at our reunions over the years. She is a treasured friend who will always be remembered fondly not only by me but by all of us who survived the diploma school. My sincere sympathy to Delisle and the rest of Joan's family and I pray for peace and comfort for you.  Joan was a remarkable woman who was highly respected by her friends and co-workers.  She had grace, honesty, and dignity and enjoyed life's blessings of having wonderful family and friends.  After a courageous battle with this dreadful disease, she is now at peace.

We praise God that Joan is pain free!  To her immediate family: Delisle, Douglas, Jef, Mabry, Linda, and all, you are in our prayers as you have been throughout her illness. May God grant you peace in the coming days.

I had the pleasure of working with Joan Futch for many years at Tallahassee Memorial.  I have always had the upmost respect for her and will miss her!  I will always have fond memories of our time together at TMH!!  Amy M.
