The youngest of 7 children, Joan grew up in Canada during the Depression in a lively Irish family who treasured wit, intelligence, poetry and laughter.
As a young woman, she taught school in Windsor, Ontario and married in 1953. In addition to raising her 6 children, she earned a Master’s Degree at FSU and returned to the classroom to teach 5th grade at Astoria Park for 22 years. She was an active member of her church community and experienced a deep faith that brought her great joy.
Joan is mourned by her beloved spouse of 60 years, Joe O’Neil; by her six children, Mike O’Neil, Terri O’Neil, Tim O’Neil, Brigid Harris, Margaret Bukovi and Patricia Hohman; and by her 8 grandchildren:Sarah, Patrick, Kathryn, Kristine, Matthew, Hannah, Georgia and Trevor.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 17 from 6:00pm-8:00PM at Culleys MeadowWood Timberlane Road Chapel. The Mass of the Resurrection will be held at the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More, 900 West Tennessee St. on Friday, October 18th at 11:00AM, followed by a reception in the social hall.
